Distance & Online Library Services

Hello Online Faculty!

My name is Dr. Melissa Atkinson, and I am the Director of Distance & Online Library Services at the ACU Library. My colleague, Avery Weems, is the Distance & Online Library Services Librarian. You can contact either of us for help with finding sources for your courses, helping students select and refine a research topic, searching our databases, troubleshooting access issues, getting citation help, helping students through their dissertation topic selection, or other library help. Fun facts: I have been married for 10 years to my wonderful husband. We were married on Maui and have been back 3 times since then.

After graduating ACU with a Bachelor's in Mathematics Education, I taught public school for 2.5 years, and then decided to pursue a Master's in Library and Information Science. I have been a librarian at ACU for 20 years. I was an online doctoral student at Regent University for four and a half years. On November 19, 2018, I successfully defended my dissertation. My dissertation title is "The relationship between metaliteracy pretest, posttest, and metacognitive strategies for library research skills scale: Creating a metaliteracy course for online Ed.D. students." More information about metaliteracy can be found here: metaliteracy.

I am a 2012 graduate of Abilene Christian University and completed my (online) Master's degree in Library Science at the University of North Texas in 2017. I've been employed in various roles at the ACU library since 2013.
