These resources can help you find already established data sets and statistics you can use for your research.

Where to Find Data Sets, Statistical Databases, and Software

Data is raw information, such as data sets, that can be manipulated and analyzed to create statistics. You do not need permission to use data sets.

Statistics are the form data takes after it has been analyzed and are usually shown in charts, graphs, tables, or figures. You should probably seek permission to use statistics in a paper, presentation, or dissertation.

Census Data (Census.gov)
Data.Census.Gov provides access to data about the United States, Puerto Rico and the Island Areas. The data in Data.Census.Gov comes from several censuses and surveys.
Digest of Education Statistics (NCES)
The primary purpose of the Digest of Education Statistics is to provide a compilation of statistical information covering the broad field of American education from prekindergarten through graduate school.
The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS)
IPEDS gathers information from every college, university, and technical and vocational institution that participates in the federal student financial aid programs.
National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education.
U.S. Department of Education Data & Statistics
Includes information on K-12 students and schools, colleges & universities, and student outcomes.

Nation's Report Card State Profiles
Find data on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) assessments. View trends and demographics, download snapshot reports, and compare results for each state/jurisdiction to the nation and to the other states.
Rankings of States and Estimates of School Statistics (NEA)
Find current and previous reports that provide facts about the extent to which local, state, and national governments commit resources to public education.
State Education Data Profiles (NCES)
earch for statewide information in elementary/secondary education characteristics and finance, postsecondary education, public libraries, assessments, and selected demographics for all states.
Texas Education Agency Reports and Data
Data from Texas schools is used to create a number of reports that provide information about a variety of topics, such as student performance, spending and implementation of legislation. Includes school district data and student data.

Eurostat Education & Training
Eurostat is the statistical office of the European Union in Luxembourg. The education and training statistics provide information on the participation of individuals in education and training activities, education financing and teaching staff as well as on outcomes of education.
Open Doors (IIE)
A comprehensive information resource on international students and scholars studying or teaching at higher education institutions in the United States, and U.S. students studying abroad for academic credit at their home colleges or universities.
UNdata
Contains over 60 million data points cover a wide range of themes including Education, Employment, Health, Human Development, Information and Communication Technology, Population, and Refugees.
UNESCO UIS (Education & Literacy)
The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) is the official and trusted source of internationally-comparable data on education, science, culture and communication.
The World Data Bank
Online web resource that provides simple and quick access to collections of time series data.

A large portal of statistical data covering many different topics from over 18,000 sources. The data sources include trade publications, market research reports, scientific journals, and government databases. Also included are thousands of Infographics on a variety of topics that are great for to use in presentations and sharing out to social media.

The authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic conditions of the United States.

Common Core of Data (America's Public Schools) (NCES)
CCD is a comprehensive, annual, national database of all public elementary and secondary schools and school districts containing data that can be compared.
Data Tools and Apps (Census.gov)
Get statistics and data from multiple surveys on this list from Census.gov
DataCite
DataCite's goal is to help the research community locate, identify, and cite research data with confidence. Includes data sets from various repositories.

Education Demographics & Geographic Estimates (NCES)

Historical Tables and Reports (NCES)
Conveniently provide a variety of education statistics that analysts may find useful without consulting numerous research documents. Data goes back to 1965.
