When to Use a Book

Use a book when you need:

Broad, fairly thorough, overview

Books give more detail than a short encyclopedia article but cover more of the topic than a narrow journal article

More than one aspect of a topic

Each chapter will cover a different element, suggesting way to break the topic into manageable parts.

Historical perspective

Books are great when the information does not change much over time.

Example:  how the civil rights movement changed America

Optional:  If you want to focus on physical books, follow these additional steps.  This is a "quick and dirty" method and may not yield perfect results, but it will help.

2.  In Classic Catalog, select Advanced Search.

3.  Add NOT (electronic resource) or (online resource) to your search to eliminate most of the ebooks and leave you with physical books.
