Interlibrary Loan: ILL Home

Interlibrary Loan Guide for Tipasa (Dec 2024)

ILL Overview

We have transitioned to a new Interlibrary Loan management service. During this time, we ask for your patience. If you have any questions, please email acuill@acu.edu and we will do our best to resolve any issues as soon as possible.

While ACU subscribes to a number of databases, we do not have access to all resources.

In order to provide you access to additional resources, we provide a service called Interlibrary Loan, or ILL. This service allows us to borrow articles and books from other libraries across the country.

If you need an article or book that you do not have access to through ACU, the "Step-by-Step Instructions" tab or the "Distance ILL" Tab for detailed instructions on placing a request.

Once you have placed a request, you can sign in to your ILL account to view active requests, request renewals, or cancel requests.

REMINDERS

Important things to remember:

  • The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.
    • The reproduction is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. If a user makes a request for or later uses a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
  • We cannot Borrow full-text Ebooks through Interlibrary Loans due to previously stated copyright restrictions.
    • If you live in Abilene, we can request the physical version of the book instead.
    • If you do not live in Abilene, please see the DistanceILL Guide for options on obtaining physical resources.
  • Download articles as soon as they are available.
    • ILL Articles are only available for 30 days, or for 5 views, whichever comes first. We recommend downloading articles as soon as you are notified that they have become available. It is recommended to download articles to a local storage device (such as a personal computer) or a cloud storage service (such as Google Drive, One Drive, etc.)
    • If you fail to download articles and they are no longer available, we cannot guarantee we will be able to obtain them for you a second time, due to factors such as copyright restriction and lending library availability.
  • If you do not return your ILL books ON OR BEFORE the due date, your ILL privileges may be revoked, either temporarily or permanently.
    • Patrons who keep ILL books significantly past their due date will be fined a minimum of$100, with a $50 NON-REFUNDABLE processing fee.
      • This charge may exceed $100 if the lending library invoices us for a higher amount.
    • Patrons who consistently keep ILL books past the due date will be placed on Interlibrary Loan Probation.

Cancellations

If you receive an email notifying you that your ILL request was cancelled, there was either a problem filling your request, or you can get this resource faster a different way. It does not mean we will refuse to fill your request.

If you receive a cancellation email, please read it carefully. It will contain details on accessing the resources you requested.

ILL requests may be cancelled for any of the following reasons:

  • The requested item is currently available to check out or download (usually through the ACU Catalog or Onesearch).
  • The requested item is a format we are unable to borrow (full-text Ebook, video file, clinical trial, embargoed dissertations or theses, etc.).
  • The requested item is too new to request through Interlibrary Loan.
  • Multiple requests for an identical item were made.
  • You requested a physical book but you do not live in Abilene.
  • We do not have enough information to identify the requested item.
  • We have been unsuccessful in our attempts to fill your request before the "need before" date.

If you are confused about why your request was cancelled or believe it was cancelled in error, please contact us at acuill@acu.edu

If you have questions about other library services, please contact a Research Librarian.
