A growth mindset drives motivation and achievement.
Students’ beliefs about intelligence have important consequences for how they experience school and how they respond to setbacks and adversity. Nursing school is challenging. Everything is hard before it is easy. When students hold a fixed mindset, they may worry about proving their ability or refuse to answer questions for fear of being incorrect. This can lead students to avoid challenges and give up when they struggle. But when students hold a growth mindset, the challenges in nursing school may be approached as opportunities to develop mastery.
